Hobbies

All work and no play makes me sad, so…… I have many interests that fill my spare time. One of them is scrapbooking. I have belonged to a group of ladies who have been scrapbooking together for several years now. Most of us in the group are in some way connected to education. We call ourselves Mary’s Makers and we meet monthly to complete scrapbook layout pages. Mary is actually a retired elementary school principal and is now a Close to My Heart consultant. Every month we select a scrapbook layout that we each put together. I tend to “go rogue” and change the layout in some way. I often use the scraps from the layout to create additional pages – I like my album pages to carry the same color theme. Anyhow, my Mom, who is part of the group, is always commenting about my “made up” layouts. In honor of her and the rest of my Mary’s Makers crew, I’ve decided to share some of my “rogue” pages.

Since February and Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, I thought I would dig out an old paper pack I have had for a few years (I think) and do something with it. The pack is the Cheerful Valentine Additions – a Creative Memories paper pack from 2011. Anyhow, this isn’t my prettiest layout, but I wanted to show my mom that you don’t have to be fancy to pull together a nice layout. I started with a generic layout from and old Close to My Heart pattern book. I then used the leftover scraps to create three additional 2 page layouts. Of note – I didn’t have 2 pages of blue cardstock that matched the Cheerful Valentine pack. Instead, I picked a blue in a similar color palette. I embellished with the stickers that came in the additions package and added “mini sparkles”. I also added hearts that I cut out with my Cuttlebug. Lastly, I cut out the large heart in the first layout and some smaller hearts with my Cricut. Lastly, I used shimmer ribbon to add some bling.

…now I just need to find pictures that I can use with this layout…..
